As with any good product, you need to be able to test it before it is ready for commercial use. This is why with Coinify, you have a Sandbox environment to safely test the integration with our products. Our solutions can be tested in the dedicated Sandbox environment by using testnet Bitcoin for the test transactions. This article will guide you through setting up your own testnet BTC address and getting free testnet BTC (BTCt) funds.
Note: The products and websites provided in this article are purely based on our own experience and with the ease of access for our customers in mind. There are other wallets out there which also support testnet BTC addresses and you are free to use whichever one you find suitable.
In this article, we will cover creating a Testnet address in the Coinomi wallet as it supports most major mobile and desktop operating systems.
To start, you can go to Coinomi wallet download page (Android, iOS, MacOS, Windows, Linux): https://www.coinomi.com/downloads/
Follow the steps bellow to get set up:
- Download and install Coinomi wallet
- Open the Coinomi App and click on "Create a new Wallet"
- Store your recovery phrase in a secure manner and click "Next"
- Skip or Confirm your Recovery phrase
- Set up your password and click Next
- Find and select "Bitcoin Test" coin from the list and click Next
- Accept the terms of service
- Your testnet BTC wallet is now set
While testing (e.g our Trade Widget or Payment solutions) in Sandbox environment you need to use an address type starting with m, n or 2 when setting the Receiving address for testing trades or the refund address when testing payments. Read more about the supported address types here.
In terms of Coinomi wallet, when you click on "Receive" you will be presented with 3 types of addresses to choose from. For testing with Conify, use the "Compatibility" or "Legacy" address types to be able to receive your BTCt.
How to retrieve free testnet BTC (BTCt) to test with?
You can get free BTCt on a so called Bitcoin faucet. We have collected several ones for you in the list below. All you need to do is copy-paste your "Receive" BTCt address and click the send button and the BTCt will be delivered to your testnet address. (Note: each faucet has a limited amount of BTCt they send for each request and a time limit indicating when you can make another request.)
- Bitcoin Faucets:
You are now ready to test Coinify's products in the Sandbox environment.
Once you are done with the testing phase, we encourage you to return the testnet BTC to the faucet you got them from. They will appreciate it as they have a limited amount of it and are giving it out for free. 😉
